Using ABAP Help

The help function in the ABAP Editor allows you to display information about ABAP syntax, semantics, and the individual ABAP keywords.

Starting the Help

There are many ways to access the help documentation:

· By pressing F1 when the cursor is positioned on a keyword in the ABAP Editor.

· By choosing the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text button with the quick info text Help On… in the ABAP Editor

· By choosing Utilities® Help On… from the initial screen of the ABAP Editor

· By starting transaction ABAPHELP

· By starting transaction ABAPDOCU and then selecting the bottom node of the tree document structure that is displayed.

Help Areas

You can read help documentation in the following areas:

· ABAP Keyword Documentation

· ABAP Overview

· ABAP Index

· ABAP Glossary

· ABAP Keyword Directory

· New Features in ABAP

You can also look up the help files for specific development objects like:

· Class / Interface

· Function Module

· Table / Structure / View

· Logical database

· Authorization object

· Infotype switch

You can also open the SAP Library to read documentation about the specific ABAP tool you need.

You can also create an offline version of the ABAP keyword documentation.
The entire keyword documentation (including navigation structure) will be downloaded in HTML format to a directory on your local computer (the download takes 10-20 minutes). The offline documentation only supports links to other downloaded topics, but it can be used independently of the SAP system.
